Institution of Occupational Safety & Health Managing Safely Certificate

INTRODUCTION
This is a basic level management course intended for anyone in a supervisory or managerial role. A reasonable level of written English is required.

PROGRAMME
The course is flexible but requires four days contact time. One day per week or residential are the preferred options.

Courses are as inter-active as possible and involves both role-play and set investigations. A workbook is supplied although it is recommended that a suitable textbook should also be provided for delegates.

The content consists of:-

  • Principles of Safety Management
    • Accidents, Behaviour and Communications
  • The Legal Framework
    • HSWA74, Risk Assessment Techniques
  • Occupational Health
    • Workplace environment, COSHH, Manual Handling, Noise, DSE,
  • Occupational Safety
    • Electricity, Fire, Mechanical Handling, Working at Height, PPE, First Aid

At the conclusion of the course delegates are expected to prepare a managerial report to a set format and developed from a risk assessment of their own workplace. The subject and scale of the project should be discussed with the course tutor on the final day.

CERTIFICATE
The certificate is awarded to candidates who have completed the course and passed both the one-hour multi-choice examination and the work based project.
